Guardiola was seen yelling at Redmond just moments after Raheem Sterling last-gasp winner and some reports claimed the Spaniard had called the forward a ‘w****r’.

The ex-Barcelona boss professed his innocence after City’s win, claiming that he had in fact complimented Redmond and the Englishman has broken his silence on the incident.

‘Yes he was very passionate, intense and aggressive but he was only very complimentary and positive to me,’ the Saints man told his followers on Twitter.

‘He commented on my qualities as a young English player and how he wanted me to attack his team more during the game in a similar way to last season.

‘I told him I was doing what my Manager had asked me to do in the game. That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less.

‘Nothing negative or offensive was said towards me from Pep and that’s what makes him one of the best Manager’s in world football.’

Guardiola insisted that his aggression was as a result of Southampton’s time-wasting.

‘I was telling Nathan Redmond how good he is at the end,’ he said after City’s 2-1 win.
