Video has emerged of a man allegedly attacking a police officer on Christmas Eve.

A 39-year-old man, believed to be Ashley Dodd, allegedly assaulted the police officer on Sunday after the Toyota Camry he was riding in was stopped in the Glass House Mountains about 4.45pm.

Police asked the man to get out of the car so they could search him. Drugs, including Oxycodene, were found on him.

The man then attempted to flee into shrubbery but the video shows the police officer grabbing his shirt to stop him.

Mr Dodd then turned and allegedly punched the police officer in the head and repeatedly hit him after he was knocked to the ground.

The officer repeatedly asked the man, "What are you doing" and said, "Think about what you're doing".

Mr Dodd then yelled at the driver of the Camry to get out of the car with another nine-year-old passenger.

He sped off in the car as the footage showed the police officer attempting to chase after him on foot.

The 49-year-old sergeant was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital following the attack.

His finger was dislocated and he was treated for facial and head injuries, including bruises and grazes.

The 24-year-old driver of the car is from the Glass House Mountains and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Anybody who may have seen Mr Dodd or knows of his whereabouts is urged not to approach him and to contact police immediately.

Police are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, has dashcam footage or who may have seen a white 2001 Toyota Camry with registration 894HAD, to come forward.

The vehicle was stolen from Glenview, in the Sunshine Coast region, on December 10.

The police officer was the second to have been seriously assaulted while performing Christmas road safety traffic duties on the Sunshine Coast.

On Friday a police officer was allegedly bashed by 45-year-old Keven De Vroom after he was pulled over in his van.
