Jermaine Jenas admitted he’s been ‘shocked’ by Antonio Conte’s reluctance to place Willian in Chelsea’s starting XI on a regular basis this season after the Brazilian bagged another goal in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

The 29-year-old has scored four goals in his past three matches, having enjoyed a run in the side and he was once again in fine form at Old Trafford, despite his side’s loss.

However, the Brazil international has found himself in and out of the team this season, starting just 14 Premier League clashes and appearing from the bench nearly as many times (13).

And former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jenas expressed his surprise at Conte’s persistent rotation of Willian, insisting he would get into any XI in English football.

‘It shocks me, I have to say,’ Jenas said on Match of the Day.

‘As a player, I think he’d get into any team in the Premier League.

‘I’m talking Manchester City, Chelsea obviously, Spurs, you name it. I think he’s that good, I really do.

‘You can call it a criticism of Conte, he sees things day in day out on the training pitch. So there might be certain things that we’re not seeing.

‘But I have to say, the last few months, he’s been sensational.’
