Comedy Central International greenlit two new short-form digital series inspired by its irreverent comedy, Bad Snappers, which finds humor in our Snapchat-curated lives.
One new digital spinoff series, Unfiltered, gives a guys perspective on our manufactured social media selves — whether its lying on a dating profile, stealing a friends dog for an Instagram photo shoot. It stars the comedy duo Aaron Robertson and Gavin Dunn, and is produced by Factory Films.
“Its from that kernel of the idea of real life versus how we present ourselves on social media,” said Claire McArdle, Comedy Central Internationals vice president of multiplatform. “With the core element being the friendship.”
Comedy Central also launched a localized version of Bad Snappers for the Middle East, featuring comedians Rima Iskandarani and Frial Abdelrazek. It debuts April 9 with five 60-second sketches that deal with social media use and misuse.
The stars of the original Bad Snappers, Georgie Fuller and Danni Jackson, have been signed to a development deal to explore longer, more complex stories, said McArdle. The series, which has amassed 16 million views, won Breakthrough Web Series at the Funny Women Awards in March in the U.K.
Comedy Central International is investing heavily in its digital presence, greenlighting 10 short form series so far this year.
