RIYADH: Parliamentarians said Arabs are advocates of just and comprehensive peace, one that respects the rights of the Palestinian people and other Arab states that still have some of their territories occupied by Israel, given that this peace respects their dignity and preserves their rights.
Following the opening session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union's 28th special session at the House of Representatives in Egypt, parliamentarians called on Arab citizens and parliaments to increase their support for the Palestinian plight in defending their land and rights.
The statement also called on Arab states to “put their differences aside, and seek to to resolve them for Arab unity, without internationalizing their inner conflicts and allowing foreign inferences, which brought nothing but destruction and division to the Arab people.”
It said Arab citizens have been and are still eager to build an Arab unity that respects the aspirations of its members and serves their interests and their future, in a bid to restore the Palestinian nations lost glory.
The statement strongly rejected the Knessets approval of the new Israeli law, saying that the move contradicts international law and principles of international legitimacy and human rights.
The statement added that this would undermine the chances of peace in the Middle East.
It also denounced the reduction of financial benefits for Al-Ghawth Organization for Humanitarian Relief, which is preparing to end its services for Palestinian refugees.
The statement praised the role of Arab states in supporting the Palestinian cause in international platforms, especially the recent mobilization of international positions at the United Nations Security Council, including the Kuwait-drafted Palestinian resolution, which was backed by Arab states.
The statement also praised Egypts contributions to Palestinian reconciliation and the continued opening of the Rafah border crossing, and the Jordanian role and guardianship of holy sites in Jerusalem.
