Five Army personnel fought close quarter battle with terrorists

KOLKATA: The five special forces personnel engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the terrorists attempting to infiltrate into India from across the Line of Control (LOC) in the Keran Sector of J&K's Kupwara after falling off a cornice on Sunday morning, the Army has confirmed.
The elite paratroopers succeeded in neutralising the Pakistan-back terrorists before being martyred.
"The infiltration attempt was first reported on Wednesday but inclement weather and difficult terrain prevented any action till Saturday. On that day, four soldiers under the command of a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) were airdropped near the LOC. They belonged to one of the most professional Para SF units of the Army. Operations were not possible that day but began at first light on Sunday. One squad followed the footsteps of the terrorists but realised too late that they were on a cornice. It broke and the troops fell into a nullah next to where the terrorists were sitting," a senior officer said.
