Chinese PLA returns abducted Arunachal youth; quarantined in Indian Army camp

GUWAHATI: The Chinese PLA, which had abducted an Arunachal Pradesh youth on March 19 after he had reportedly had crossed over the McMohan Line to the Chinese side in search of herbs, handed him over to Indian Army on Tuesday and is currently been kept in quarantine in the Army camp at Taksing in Upper Subansiri district.
Defence PRO Lt Col P Kohngsai said, “The 21-year-old Tongle Sinkam has currently been quarantined by the Indian Army in view of Covid-19 and subsequently will be handed over to his family after 14 days.”
“When the incident came to light, the Indian Army immediately swung into action and approached the Chinese side utilizing the established border management mechanism. Owing to peace and tranquillity that is existing in the region and the bonhomie that has developed between both the border guarding forces, Mr Sinkam was handed over to the Indian Army on April 7. This has provided immense relief to the family members of Mr Sinkam and also to the people of the area,” the Defence PRO said.
Sinkam, with his two friends Gamshi Chadar and Ronya Nade, had gone to collect traditional herbs from the land belonging to the Naa clan of the local Tagin community. “The three friends were busy fishing when the Chinese security personnel ambushed them. While other two friends could successfully escape, Tongle Sinkam was abducted at the gunpoint by the Chinese security personnel,” the Tagin Cultural Society stated saying in its memorandum submitted to Arunachal Pradesh Governor BD Mishra seeking governments intervention for his release.
