SRINAGAR: The J&K governments department of sheep husbandry has declined to sell to the Indian Army its 129 kanals or 16.12 acre of land at Tapperwari, Pattan in Baramulla district.
The army, in a letter to the J&K government, had requested the department to sell the land where some of its troops are stationed for some time now.
Director (sheep husbandry) Abdul Salaam on Saturday said that the plot cannot be sold as a sheep farm is already functioning there.
“We need the whole land for our department and are not going to sell it to anyone. Around Rs 20 lakh revenue is generated from the farm there and the government has livestock there,” he said, adding that the department is growing grass on the land for sheep.
On May 26, the Armys 19 infantry division ordinance unit sent the written request to the government, the first letter of interest to buy land after the Centre nullified Article 370 10 months ago.
