Hathras case: HC takes suo motu cognisance, issues notice to UP govt

NEW DELHI: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Thursday took suo motu cognisance of the Hathras incident and issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government.
The Uttar Pradesh government and the UP police are under attack over the alleged gangrape of a Dalit woman and the way her cremation was done by the Hathras administration in the dead of night.
On Wednesday, a plea was moved in the SupremeCourt seeking directions for handing over to the CBI or a Special Investigation Team the case of gang-rape and death of the Dalit woman.
The plea filed by a social activist Satyama Dubey sought transfer of the probe to the CBI or SIT under the sitting or retired judge of the top court or the high court.
Earlier today, Uttar Pradesh police said the forensic report has revealed that the woman who succumbed to her injuries at a Delhi hospital was not raped. Citing a forensic science laboratory report, ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said the cause of her death is an injury on the neck and trauma resulting due to it.
