Pep Guardiola admits he doesn’t know if David Silva will be ready to make his Manchester City return against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Spain international missed last weekend’s win over Tottenham due to personal reasons and the club has remained tight-lipped on his availability.

Asked if Silva would feature against Eddie Howe’s side, Guardiola responded: ‘I don’t know.’

City extended their remarkable winning run to 16 last Saturday with Ilkay Gundogan impressing in Silva’s absence, while a much changed side booked a Carabao Cup semi final place after defeating Leicester in a penalty shootout.

England youth international Ben Foden featured from the start against the Foxes but Guardiola revealed the highly rated 17-year-old has suffered a potentially serious ligament injury.

‘He’s injured,’ said Guardiola. ‘It’s not good. It’s a ligament. Could be out for a time.

‘The referee has to be careful about diving players but they also need to protect the players.’
