Everton are prepared to offer Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere an eye-watering £8million signing-on fee to join the club on a free transfer this summer.

The England international is out of contract at the end of the season and negotiations with Arsenal have stalled after the Gunners asked Wilshere to take a pay cut to extend his deal.

Wilshere wants to stay at Arsenal but feels insulted by the club’s opening offer and he will consider leaving should the club fail to increase their offer.

The injury-plagued midfielder has managed 31 appearances for the Gunners this term but Everton are prepared for another summer of heavy spending and know Wilshere would be worth closer to £30m if not for his contract situation.

According to the Times, Everton are making an ‘aggressive play’ for Wilshere’s signature and have dangled an appealing £8m signing on fee to his representatives.

The Gunners are not in action for another fortnight after their Europa League last-16 victory against AC Milan.

Wilshere played in both games and captained the side in the second leg when Laurent Koscielny was forced off.
