After a review, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have cleared the allegations made against Academy President John Bailey based on its Standards of Conduct.

The Academys Membership and Administration Committee and its sub-committee thoroughly reviewed the claim, Baileys response, and “corroborating statements from both parties.” As a result, the Academy released a statement saying: “The Committee unanimously determined that no further action was merited on this matter. The findings and recommendations of the committee were reported to the Board which endorsed its recommendation. John Bailey remains President of the Academy.”

The statement also said, “The Academy took the claim very seriously and was aware of the rights of both the claimant and the accused, including consulting with outside counsel with expertise in matters related to harassment.”

Last week, Bailey sent a letter to his staff denying the allegations saying, “I am alleged to have attempted to touch a woman inappropriately while we were both riding in a transport van on a movie set.” He added. “That did not happen.”

The allegations surfaced earlier in March just 15 days after the 90th Oscars ceremony. Initially, there were three allegations but according to the Academys statement, there was only one claim under consideration which was received on March 13.

Bailey, 75, was voted in as the Academys new president in August, replacing Cheryl Boone Isaacs. The longtime AMPAS member had been president of the Cinematographers branch and previously served as a VP.
