Amazon Hits 100,000,000 Prime Subscribers

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos disclosed Wednesday in the latest annual shareholder letter that the companys Prime service has reached 100,000,000 members around the world.

Amazon also had the most popular item in 2017, selling “tens of millions” of the various Echo smart speakers, according to CNBC. Aside from the statistics, which are telling of Amazons fast-growing success, the letter is also a great glimpse into the richest man in the worlds mindset.

Bezos, who has released such a piece of communication on a yearly basis since 1997, said its critical to continuously set higher and higher standards for the company as time goes on because customers do the same for expectations.

To achieve this, Bezos lays out his “four elements of high standards.”

“They are teachable, they are domain specific, you must recognize them, and you must explicitly coach realistic scope,” Bezos wrote, CNBC reports. “Building a culture of high standards is well worth the effort, and there are many benefits.”

Those high standards and their elements seem to be manifesting itself, as Amazon has transformed from a e-commerce platform to a tech conglomerate with stakes in several different industries. For instance, Amazon has and offers a highly successful cloud computing service, electronics (like the aforementioned smart speakers and tablets), groceries (both in-store and delivery) and, of course, video streaming, among many others. All of this corporate triumph, and purportedly unfair practices, has led to the ire of President Donald Trump, who believes that Amazon is pulling one over on the United States Postal Service through supply chain deals.
