The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is organizing a workshop on improving the situation of the elderly in the OIC member states, at its headquarters in Jeddah on April 24 and 25.

During the workshop, international and regional organizations will address the challenges facing the elderly.

The UN will review the Madrid International plan for action on aging, the World Health Organization will present its global strategy and action plan on aging and health, the African Union will review the policy framework and plan of action on aging, and the Arab League will review its experience on the elderly.

Participants in the workshop will study the national practices and point of views in this field.

The workshop aims to study and discuss the recent trends in the situation of the elderly in the OIC member states; identify the challenges, policies and practices and the available opportunities for the elderly; and shed light on their potential role in the sustainable development of OIC member states.
