Looking to fill that Game of Thrones void before the final season premieres in 2019? Well, youre in luck. While waiting to see whats in store for Jon Snow and the gang, George R.R. Martin, the man behind the books on which the HBO show is based, will releaseFire and Blood on November 20.

The forthcoming book wont be a continuation of the books stemming from A Song of Ice and Fire. Considering prequels continue to be a hot commodity right now, Fire and Blood will take place three-hundred years before the events of Fire and Ice. The book will be the first of two planned volumes and is the definitive history of the Targaryens in Westeros and chronicles the conquest that united the Seven Kingdoms under Targaryen rule through the Dance of the Dragons: the Targaryen civil war that nearly ended their dynasty forever.

The story was touched on in The World of Ice and Fire and various anthologies, but with Fire and Blood, we will take a deep dive headfirst into the mouth of the dragon as Martin will weave a full tapestry of the history of the Targaryens for the first time. the book will include over 75 all-new black and white portraits and scenes by artist Doug Wheatley.

The news comes after fans have been warming up for The Winds of Winter, which has been on ice since Martin missed the deadline for the sixth novel in the fantasy series. That said, Game of Thrones diehards will just have to devour Fire and Blood before they can feel the chill of the Winds of Winter.

Ballantine Bantam Dell will publish Fire and Blood under their U.S. imprint Bantam Books while HarperCollins Voyager will publish in the UK and Commonwealth. Martins longtime publishers in the following foreign territories will join in simultaneous publication, among them Penhaligon in Germany, Éditions Pygmalion in France, Arnoldo Mondadori in Italy, Penguin Random House in Mexico and South America, Luitingh-Sijthoff in the Netherlands, and Zysk i S-Ka in Poland, with more to be announced.
