The German defense ministry denied Qatari media reports attributing statements to German Minister of Defense Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the NATO summit which was held last week in Brussels.
On Friday, Qatari media outlets published an alleged interview with Von Der Leyen in Arabic and English.
The interview claimed that the German minister “thanked Dohas participation and stance with EU countries and NATO members,” adding that “she sympathizes with Qatar” which is boycotted by the anti-terror quartet because of Dohas support for terrorism and extremist groups.
However, the German Embassy in Riyadh denied the statements attributed to the minister and wrote on Twitter: “German Ministry of Defense denies reports of #Qatari media on alleged statements of Minister Ursula von der Leyen on margins of #NATO Summit in #Brussels.”
