JEDDAH: Scout camps are being used to serve pilgrims in Makkah and the holy sites in Mina and Arafat during this years Hajj season.
Overseen by the Saudi Scouts Association, 4,500 scouts are taking part in different activities to facilitate pilgrims during Hajj.
The scouts began collecting information about different Hajj-related sites and started identifying landmarks on Sunday so they could start their activities from the seventh day of Dul Hijjah to guide lost pilgrims. The commander of the camps, Dr. Saleh bin Raja Al-Harbi, said the survey consists of three stages, the first phase is “preparation and processing,” in which a plan is prepared and the survey program for the units in Mina and Arafat is set up.
Scout units will survey the holy places in two shifts to process the files of units and specialists, review the maps and slides and compare them on the ground, adjusting them according to the new coordinates.
“In the second phase, the unit members will survey areas of Mina and Arafat, and document the information in the survey booklet. Then, they will evaluate this data and match it with the official data,” Al-Harbi said.
He said the third phase deals with issuing the guide, general maps and slides after confirmation and review.
