Saudi Arabian Airlines launches first flight to Irbil

JEDDAH: Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) launched on Sunday its first direct and regular flight between the Kingdom and Irbil, the capital of Iraqs Kurdistan region.
The first flight SV0625 departed from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and arrived in Irbil International Airport after three hours.
The airplane was welcomed with a water salute as per airport tradition to welcome a new airline service.
On board the flight was Saudia Director General Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser and the Iraqi Consul in Jeddah Akkab Fesal Al-Kaoud.
The flight was received at the airport by Saudi Arabias ambassador to Iraq, Abdulaziz bin Khalid Al-Shammari, several ministers of the regional government, and Iraqi Civil Aviation chiefs.
“My happiness on this day is indescribable, as I stand today among you on the occasion of operating [the flight] for the first time to Irbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region, a country of history and culture,” Al-Jasser said.
He also noted Saudias achievements during the past two years, pointing out that it has reached significant growth on various levels.
