Gandhi, Zayed remembered with sapling plantation in Dubai school

Indian students plant 250 saplings marking 150th and 100th birth anniversaries of the two leaders

Dubai: Celebrations of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation of India, kickstarted green with students planting saplings in The Indian High School on Tuesday morning.

Students from 20 Indian schools across the UAE also paid tributes to the Founding Father of the UAE Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, marking the 100th year of his birth anniversary observed as the Year of Zayed.

A total of 100 saplings were planted in honour of Shaikh Zayed and 150 saplings to pay tributes to Gandhi in the event held to jointly celebrate the legacy of the two leaders.

The Indian Consulate in Dubai and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority joined hands with The Indian High School to organize the event celebrating the legendary leaders vision for a sustainable future at the Urban Forest, a green project at the schools campus in Oud Metha.

Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of the KHDA, Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul, Sunil Umrao Singh, the chairman of the school and Ashok Kumar, the CEO of the school led the plantation ceremony.

A few white doves, a symbol of peace, and hundreds of balloons in the colours of the two countries national flags were also released during the ceremony.

The officials and the students reminisced the teachings of the two leaders and highlighted their importance even today.
