Shada Mountain Al-Baha, a town 800 kilometers from Riyadh, seems like a secret civilization, thanks to its beautiful scenery and stunning architecture that looks like all the buildings have been carved out of mountains.
The region is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in the Kingdom, and perhaps in the Middle East, due to its unique geological formation.
The greatest historic treasures are concealed in the dense, green Shada Mountain, where there are caves containing engraved drawings and inscriptions dating back almost 3,000 years, including pictures of extinct animals. The area includes two mountains, Shada Al-Asfal (Lower Shada) and Shada Al-Ala (Higher Shada), which rise to a height of 1,700 meters above the sea level and provide some beautiful scenery.
Due to weather conditions in the region, the local rocks offer unique scenery, as many of them resemble the forms of different animals.
Saudi Arabia and its leadership are keen to promote Saudi heritage sites as part of Vision 2030.
The mountains are becoming increasingly popular with climbers and hikers, who in the past few years have been coming from all over the Kingdom. The rich history of the area and its caves also makes it the perfect destination for students and the “scientific tourism” sector.
Coffee lovers, meanwhile, will be interested to hear that the nearby town of Makhwah is the place where most of Kingdoms coffee beans are grown.
With beautiful scenery that looks like it is straight out of a painting, the rich history of the caves and weather that can be enjoyed all year round, the mountains and the surrounding area are the perfect place to relax, meditate and enjoy a break from the daily routine.
