Menendez Brothers Murderers Surface On Viral Basketball Trading Card

One of the entertainment industrys most notorious murders has been spotlighted in a most unlikely place – a basketball trading card.

Lyle and Erik Menendez, the Beverly Hills brothers who brutally killed their father and mother, entertainment executive José Menéndez and his wife Mary (Kitty), are depicted on a Hoops trading card from the 1990-1991 season.

The brothers were captured calmly sitting courtside on the card, an action shot featuring former Knicks guard Mark Jackson.

The eerie coincidence was noticed earlier this week and has since gone viral after being posted on Reddit. The photo would have been taken before they were arrested for the murders in 1990.

After a mistrial and deadlocked juries (there was one trial but two separate juries, one for each brother), the brothers – who claimed they were sexually and emotionally abused and feared for their own lives – were later re-tried and convicted in 1996 of two counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole.

Jackson played five seasons with the Knicks and later joined seven other teams.

The Menendez murders were profiled last year on NBCs Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders. Harry Hamlin played Barry Levin, a former LAPD officer turned attorney and co-counsel to Edie Falcos Leslie Abramson during the second trial of Erik Menendez.
