Google Unveils Plans For Massive Silicon Valley Development

Google is continuing to take Silicon Valley by storm. They recently unveiled plans for a massive development in its home base of Mountain View, Calif.

The tech powerhouse submitted plans to the city of Mountain View which includes office, retail, public, and residential space. For the development, Google will team with a developer to construct up to 6,600 residential units on its land, with 20 percent qualifying as affordable housing.

The plans for the development were released on December 7 and show illustrated renderings of the community which will be located on the North Bayshore area of Mountain View. It will include 3.12 million square feet of new and redeveloped offices, up to 400,000 square feet of community retail area, and nearly 8,000 new homes and 35 acres of publicly accessible space. Officials are set to discuss the plans in 2019.

The ambitious plans are part of Googles land grab in the South Bay Area. Over the last two years, the tech giant has spent nearly $2.8 billion buying property not only in its home city of Mountain View but also in surrounding Silicon Valley cities Sunnyvale and San Jose.
