Colin Kroll Dies: CEO Of HQ Trivia And Co-Founder Of Vine Was 35

Colin Kroll, the former co-founder of social media sensation Vine and CEO of HQ Trivia, was found dead early Sunday morning from what news reports quoting police sources claim was an apparent drug overdose.

The 35-year-old Krolls body was discovered by police after his girlfriend told them she could not reach him. The police and the girlfriend went to his SoHo apartment on Spring Street in New York City just after midnight and found Kroll in his bedroom.

Kroll was the co-founder of Vine, a short-form video hosting service acquired by Twitter before its launch, and was its general manager between 2013 and 2014. At its peak, the service claimed 200 millino active users, but in 2016, Twitter ended uploads to the service. It then produced an Internet archive of past videos.

Before Vine, Kroll was the chief technology officer for Jetsetter, and served as the engineering manager at Yahoo between 2007 to 2009.

HQ Trivia marketing director Andrew Watts tweeted Sunday: “What the f–k. Im heartbroken. What.”

Kroll became HQ Trivia CEO in September after leaving Twitter, his exit marked by some cloudy allegations of improper conduct.
