Melania Trump Spokesperson To CNN: “Reports Focus On The Trivial And Superficial”

Associated Press

Responding to a recent CNN opinion column castigating First Lady Melania Trumps job performance, the FLOTUS communications director has penned a defense of her actions.

Spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham complained of unfair coverage on Melania Trump after an opinion piece by Kate Andersen Brower on a recent FLOTUS interview with Sean Hannity. In the piece, Brower argued that Trump “doesnt understand what it means to be first lady.”

Grisham said in her own CNN piece late Saturday that “Of course, absurdity abounds in the medias coverage of our first lady. Reports focus on the trivial and superficial, rather than the deeper issues facing our country that the she has tirelessly worked to address.”

The piece went on to list examples of Melania Trumps community outreach, including visits to Pittsburgh, Las Vegas and Parkland, Fla., to meet with shooting victims. She also cited visits with military personnel, and Trumps “Be Best” campaign, which has made stops at childrens hospitals.

“She has and will continue to demonstrate her commitment to helping children and advancing the causes she is passionate about,” Grisham wrote. “But there is nothing wrong with staying true to herself along the way. In fact, her strength, individuality and integrity should be celebrated.”

The First Lady has experienced criticism from the media on “Be Best” because of her husbands social media attacks on his perceived enemies. She has also received comments on her fashion choices, including the infamous “I really dont care. Do U?” coat on her border visit, and her choice of a Pith helmet during a visit to Africa, which some saw as a reminder of the Colonial era.
