President Donald Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani said today that Trump will sit down with special counsel Robert Mueller “over my dead body.”
Speaking on Fox News Sunday to Chris Wallace, the former New York City mayor said that ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was “railroaded” and “framed” into making some recent bombshell revelations.
Giuliani also claimed that Trump initially “didnt know about” alleged hush-money payments made by former Trump attorney Michael Cohen to two women, payments prosecutors allege are campaign finance violations.
When Trump discovered the payments, he reimbursed Cohen, Giuliani said, characterizing Trumps former attorney as a “complete, pathological liar.”
“Yes, this man is lying — is that a surprise to you, that Michael Cohen is lying?” Giuliani asked. “The man got up in front of a judge and said, I was fiercely loyal to Donald Trump. Nonsense. He wasnt fiercely loyal to him, he taped him.
Giuliani also attempted to clear up confusion on the payments and Trumps statement. In April, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he didnt know about Cohens $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels. But in a September 2016 recording by Cohen, Trump says he was aware of the payment to another woman, Karen McDougal.
“There was an intervening conversation,” Guiliani contended, after the payment took place and before the Air Force One comments.
Trump tweeted earlier on Sunday that Cohen “only became a Rat'” after the FBI raided his office in April.
Giuliani said in response to a Wallace question on whether the president would meet with Mueller, “Yeah, good luck, good luck — after what they did to Flynn, the way they trapped him into perjury, and no sentence for him.”
“Over my dead body. But, you know, I could be dead.”
