SRINAGAR: Three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists, including a top commander, were killed in an encounter with security forces on Monday at Wachi in south Kashmirs Shopian district.
Later, addressing the media in Srinagar, Dilbag Singh, DGP of J&K, said the Hizbul terror group is fast losing ground in south Kashmir with many of its top commanders along with their associates killed in the last few weeks in the UT.
“Anti-militancy operations in south Kashmir districts will be intensified. Year 2020 has started on a good note as far as anti-militancy operations go,” Dilbag Singh said.
The DGP said three militants were killed in an encounter today at Wachi in south Kashmirs Shopian district.
“Three militants were killed including a top commander of Hizb, Waseem Ahmed Wani. He was active since 2017 and had 19 FIRs against him. Adil Bashir Sheikh of Zainapora and Jehangir, were the other two accomplices of Wani,” Dilbag Singh said.
Adil Bashir Sheikh was a special police officer posted with former MLA Aijaz Ahmed, when he decamped with seven AK-47s and a pistol in 2018 and joined the Hizbul outfit. Led by Waseem, Sheikh was involved in the killing of four policemen and four civilians in Shopian district, Dilbag Singh said.
Asked if it was painful to kill a former policeman (turned militant), the DGP asserted unequivocally, “Whosoever goes against the law of the land must face the music.”
On whether the Centres decision to hand over the security of Srinagar airport to the CISF reflected a lack of trust in the J&K police, the DGP said there was no question of mistrust, as the exercise to handover the airport security to the CISF was on for some months.
“The CISF handles airport security across the country, barring a few airports. Teams of CISF arrived here five months ago to review the security at airports and to work out how many men are to be deployed at Leh, Jammu, and Srinagar airports,” the DGP saiRead More – Source
