India logs in daily one lakh fresh water tap connections for rural households in unlock period

NEW DELHI: With daily one lakh households in India being provided with tap connections for drinking water since the beginning of first unlock period on June 1, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Thursday lay the foundation stone for Manipur Water Supply Project through video conferencing to give further push to a central scheme.
The Manipur project is a key component of the states ongoing efforts to provide safe drinking water to every rural household by 2024, syncing it with the central scheme under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

The JJM implementation record shows that all the states and UTs together had provided 45 lakh rural households with tap connections from June 1 to July 15 – it means the first 45 days of unlock period saw installation of daily one lakh connections amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
