No honest review of poll failure: G-23

NEW DELHI: Even 14 months after the 2019 elections, Congress has failed to undertake an honest introspection to analyse the reasons for its continued decline and the erosion in its base, the group of 23 dissident members have said in their letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi.
The contents of the letter, put up on its website by NDTV, have largely been reported and drive home the G-23s argument that in its current state of drift, Congress is no match for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP. “The CWC is not effectively guiding the party to mobilise public opinion against the divisive agenda (of the BJP government),” it said.
Interestingly, the dissenters call for an “independent election authority” comprising senior members which can ensure “free, fair and democratic” elections, pointing to internal polls for CWC and even party president. The letter notes Congresss declining share in new voter support and that it lost 1.23 crore votes from what it polled in 2009. In a sharp criticism of the party leadership, even though it does not name Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi, the letter said, “Meetings of the CPP (Congress Parliamentary Party) have over the years been reduced to customary address of the CPP leader and obituary references.”
The unsaid comparison was to meetings of the parliamentary executive under the late P V Narasimha Rao which were regular affairs and often saw detailed discussions. The letRead More – Source
