Jose Mourinho has angrily responded to Paul Scholes after the Manchester United legend criticised Paul Pogba.

Scholes claimed Pogba did not look fit and accused the playmaker of ‘strolling through games’ after United drew three Premier League games in a row.

Pogba’s return to form on Monday against Everton coincided with a 2-0 win for United and Mourinho was quick to hit out at Scholes in the post-match press conference.

Mourinho has often clashed with pundits and showed no mercy to Scholes when asked about his thoughts on his comments.

‘The only thing Paul Scholes does is criticise,’ said Mourinho after the game.

‘I don’t think he comment. He criticises – which is a different thing.

‘Scholes will be in history as a phenomenal player – not as a pundit. If one day Paul decides to become a manager I wish that he can be 25 per cent as successful as myself.’

Scholes was frustrated with Pogba’s performances for United after earning a return to Old Trafford with a superb stint at Juventus.

The former Red Devil midfielder questioned Pogba’s commitment and could not understand why his effort level has dropped.

He said: ‘Where is the Paul Pogba we saw at Juventus? He was all over the pitch, he was battling, he was tackling, he was sprinting to people, he was scoring goals from 25 yards out.

‘He is just strolling through games.’

Pogba helped United to a 2-0 win at Goodison Park with Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard grabbing the goals.

The France international played out on the left against Everton and was able to affect the game better than he had in previous matches.
