David De Gea instructed his agent Jorge Mendes to reject Real Madrid as he is intent on staying at Manchester United, according to reports.
The 27-year-old has been one of Madrid’s top targets and came very close to joining the Spanish champions in the summer of 2015 before a faulty fax machine scuppered the move.
In July, Jose Mourinho revealed that he had offered De Gea the chance to join Madrid but claimed the Spanish club did not make an offer.
El Confidencial claims that when Madrid’s president Jorge Mendes last made an approach to Mendes about De Gea, it was the United goalkeeper who clearly said he wanted to remain at Old Trafford.

According to the report, De Gea told Mendes: ‘Real Madrid? I’m the goalkeeper of Manchester United and Spain. What more could I ask for?’
El Confidencial also claims that De Gea is very happy in Manchester as he is able to move around the city without being hassled, something which he would be unable to do in Madrid.
Madrid, meanwhile, are closing in on the signing of a new goalkeeper and are reportedly on the verge of agreeing a deal for Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper is yet to sign a new contract with Bilbao and Madrid are ready to pay his €20 million (£17.5m) buyout clause in order to sign him in January.
