Liverpool could be forced to pay up to £66m for Naby Keita next summer, according to reports in Germany.

Jurgen Klopp‘s side reached an agreement with RB Leipzig in the summer by paying the midfielder’s £48 million release clause, as well as an undisclosed premium.

The condition of the transfer was that Keita remained in the Bundesliga for one more season before joining Anfield next summer, and RB Leipzig have already ruled out the prospect of allowing the 22-year-old to leave in January.

According to SportBild, Liverpool’s deal to sign Keita could reach up to €75m (£66m), depending on where RB Leipzig finish in the Bundesliga table.

Should RB Leipzig miss out on a place in Europe, which is outside the top six, Liverpool would pay €65m (£57.2m).

If Keita helps guide his side to a Europa League spot, Liverpool will pay €70m (£61.6m).

While if RB Leipzig finish in the top four to keep their place in the Champions League, Liverpool’s spend will rise to €75m (£66m).

RB Leipzig have also negotiated a sell-on clause with Liverpool, which means they will receive more money if Klopp’s side eventually decide to offload the Guinea international.
