Almost a month and a half after dropping WME like fourth-period French, Terry Crews has chosen UTA to be his agency of record. The move to the Jeremy Zimmer-led crew also follows the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star suing his former agency and its former head of its Motion Picture Group Adam Venit for sexual assault December 5. The nine-claim complaint details how Venit grabbed Crews’ genitals at a party in February 2016. It also notes that despite an apology by Venit and Crews’ sit-down with WME co-boss Ari Emanuel last month, Venit was brought back into the agency’s fold in a diminished capacity November 27 after a 30-day suspension.
Having exited WME on November 9 — one day after filing a report with the LAPD and just under a month after first going public on social media with the alleged occurrence — Crews will now be represented by UTA in all areas. The former NFL player and Old Spice frontman will continue to be represented by 3 Arts Entertainment, Anderson Group Public Relations, and lawyers at Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Krtizman Rubenstein Kohner & Gellman.
To add one more item to the Crews calendar: Today’s news comes just a month before the actor’s Sundance Film Festival debut. He stars alongside Lakeith Standfield, Tessa Thompson, Armie Hammer, Steven Yeun, Omari Hardwick, Danny Glover and Patton Oswalt in the Boot Riley-directed Sorry To Bother You. Screening during Sundance 2018’s January 18-28 run, the indie flick is competing in the U.S. Dramatic category.
