Probably never a great idea to get into a Star Wars argument with Luke Skywalker, advice Ted Cruz might wanna take to heart.
In a Twitter battle encompassing net neutrality, Darth Vader, Jedi values and internet porn, Mark Hamill and the Texas Republican senator are crossing lightsabers and taking no prisoners.
See the tweets below.
The sparring started Saturday when Hamill, taking some time away from promoting The Last Jedi (or maybe not) posted a tweet, complete with vomit emoji, of FCC chairman Ajit “Aren’t I Precious” Pai (Hamill’s words) in a Santa suit and holding a toy lightsaber.
Said Hamill, “you are profoundly unworthy 2 wield a lightsaber,” adding “A Jedi acts selflessly for the common man – NOT lie 2 enrich giant corporations. BTW, did you pay John Williams his royalty?”
So Ted Cruz takes the bait, sloppily. “@HammillHimself Luke, I know Hollywood can be confusing, but it was Vader who supported govt power over everything said & done on the Internet. That’s why giant corps (Google, Facebook, Netflix) supported the FCC power grab of net neutrality. Reject the dark side: Free the net!”
Hamill couldn’t resist a spell-checking response, though to be fair he wasn’t exactly punctilious himself (see “spaining”).
“Thanks for smarm-spaining it to me @tedcruz I know politics can be confusing, but you’d have more credibility if you spelled my name correctly. I mean IT’S RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU! Maybe you’re just distracted from watching porn at the office again-mh”
Then Zach Braff jumped in, at which point you can just take a look yourself:
