Sergio Ramos was lucky to escape a red card after he slapped Luis Suarez during Real Madrid‘s defeat to Barcelona in El Clasico on Saturday.

During a challenge in the second half, Ramos wildly swung his right arm in the direction of the Uruguayan striker.

And the Madrid captain’s right hand caught Suarez in the face before the Barca forward hit the ground.

Ramos was given a yellow card for the tackle, but the Spain international was fortunate not to receive a red card.

‘It deserved a red card,’ former La Liga referee Andujar Oliver told Radio Marca.

‘Ramos hits him with his forearm, an unnecessary foul. Sanchez Martinez was wrong to not dismiss him.’

Barca are now nine points clear at the top of La Liga following the victory at the Santiago Bernabeu, while the gap between themselves and Real Madrid has extended to 14 points.

Suarez gave Barcelona the lead in the second half before Lionel Messi doubled Barca’s advantage from the penalty spot.

Dani Carvajal was sent off after his deliberate handball conceded the penalty, while Aleix Vidal completed the win for Barca with a goal in injury time.
