Antonio Conte suggested he would love to sign Arturo Vidal but would not confirm talk that he had contacted the midfielder over a transfer.
The Chelsea boss is desperate to add new recruits to his squad in January but reports claimed he is keen on a deal to bring his former employee to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
Vidal’s contract expires at the end of next season and the Chile international was said to have spoken to his ex-manager about a move.
The Bayern Munich ace played under Conte at Juventus before moving to the Bundesliga giants.
But while the Italian tactician heaped praise on the 30-year-old, he would not confirm if he had indeed made a move for him.
‘I must be honest, it’s not right to talk about a player from another team – especially if you try to link this player with us,’ he said after Chelsea’s win over Brighton.
‘But [Arturo] is a fantastic player. I have a great respect for Arturo, and we spent many years in Juventus together.
‘If we go to war, I’d always want him with me.’
