Chelsea have opened talks with Bayern Munich over a deal for Arturo Vidal, according to reports.

The Chile international’s current contract with Bayern expires in June 2019, and the Bundesliga champions are considering whether to cash in on the midfielder.

Vidal has already played under Antonio Conte at Juventus and the duo won three Serie A titles together at the Italian club.

Conte has already claimed that Chelsea would be signing ‘one of the best in the world’ in Vidal, but admits he does not play a major role in deciding who the club targets.

According to Colombia’s W Radio, Chelsea have begun negotiations with Bayern and have submitted an opening offer of €37 million (£33m).

But the report also claims that Bayern have set an asking price of €60m (£53.3m).

Bayern are under pressure to make a decision on Vidal as the summer transfer window would be their last chance to receive a substantial transfer fee for a player who turns 31 at the end of the season.

When asked about a potential move for Vidal last month, Conte said: ‘He is a fantastic player. I have a great respect for Arturo, and we spent many years in Juventus together.

‘If we go to war, I’d always want him with me.’
