Arsenal are considering sacking long-serving boss Arsene Wenger at the end of the season after the side’s 3-0 humiliation against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

The Frenchman signed a new two-year deal following Arsenal’s FA Cup final win against Chelsea at the end of last season but the Gunners have fallen further behind the top five this term.

Wenger, for his part, intends to see out his current deal but Arsenal will review his position at the end of the season and failure to win the Europa League could end Wenger’s 22 years at the club, according to the Mirror.

Celtic boss Rodgers is one possible replacement while the likes of Joachim Low, Leonardo Jardim and former Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta are also being considered.

Arsenal have taken significant steps over the last 12 months to plan for Wenger’s succession and the appointment of a new technical director has seen the Frenchman’s influence reduce at the club.

Wenger could yet salvage the campaign by lifting the Europa League but the Arsenal board are said to be ready to have an ‘adult conversation’ over where the club is heading.

Wenger’s future at the club came into renewed question after the deflating manner in which Arsenal collapsed against Man City at Wembley on Sunday.

Gary Neville accused Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil of being ‘spineless’ during the 3-0 loss.
