NEW DELHI: The Centre and CBSE on Thursday told the Supreme Court that students of Class X will not have to take the test for remaining paper and class XII students will have an option to sit for a test or get marked on the basis of assessment in their previous two exams.
The board said that it will issue a notification by tomorrow to withdraw its decision to conduct the test of remaining papers from July 1 as the environment is not conducive to conduct exams in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Centre and the CBSE, told a bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar that XII class students will have the liberty to appear for the examination if they wish to or they can go ahead with the assessment process based on performance in two examinations on basis of which they will be granted marks.
He clarified that the option of appearing in exam will only be available to XII students and not for X class students. The Solicitor General further said the exam date for XII students, who want to take the test will be decided when the atmosphere will be conducive.
