TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee draws criticism over his ‘venomous snake’ comment

KOLKATA: Sharp criticisms were aimed at Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee after his "venomous snake" comment on Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman at a protest rally in Bankura on Saturday. The BJP said that the chief minister Mamata Banerjee has lost control over her party leaders who have "lost their mental stability".
"Even senior leaders like Kalyan Banerjee are giving contradictory statements that reveal lack of their mental clarity too. Common people are not half-witted, they are really enjoying the circus," Bengal BJP MP Dilip Ghosh tweeted. In another tweet he wrote, "The entire party is tattered because of corruption, violence and internal rift. Mamata Banerjee has lost control over both her party and the government."
Youth Congress leader Rohan Mitra criticised Banerjee for his comment and tweeted,"One of the most ill-mannered and graceless individuals, epitomises everything wrong about our political system. Condemn the vocabulary."
The controversy sparked when Banerjee started speaking on the economic condition of the nation at a rally in Bankura on Sunday. "Kal naginir chhobol kheye jerakam manush mara jay, Nirmala sitaraman er chhobol kheye bharatbarsher manush pratidin morchhe" (Just like a venomous snake which kills human beings, people of the country are dying from Nirmala Sitharaman) Banerjee had said. "She is the worst finance minister," he added. The TMC lawmaker was also critical about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Read More – Source
