Swapna Suresh is an accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case

BENGALURU/KOCHI: The key accused in the attempt to smuggle in 30 kg of gold in the UAE consulates diplomatic baggage on July 5, Swapna Suresh, and whose connections with some of Keralas movers and shakers has roiled the states political scene, was detained along with her alleged accomplice, Sandeep Nair, by the NIA in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Swapna, a former secretary at the UAE consulate in Thiruvananthapuram and later an executive with Keralas IT department, had been evading the police ever since the smuggling bid was foiled by the customs department at Trivandrum International Airport last Sunday.
