PM Narendra Modi lays foundation stone for Manipur water supply project: Key points

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for Manipur Water Supply Project through video conferencing.
Here is a look at the key points from his speech —

  • This event is an example that even during coronavirus, the country has not stopped. Till the time there is no vaccine, we have to continue our fight against the virus. At the same time, we have to continue promoting development work with full force.
  • This year, east and northeast India is facing dual challenges. In northeast, this year as well rains are causing massive damage. A lot of people have lost their lives, many more have been left homeless.
  • The state government is working 24X7 to control the spread of coronavirus in Manipur. The state government has taken all possible steps to provide essential services to people of Manipur during the lockdown and to bring back stranded people.
  • Under Prime Minister Gareeb Kalyan Ann Yojana, over 25 lakh Manipuris have been provided with free foodgrain. Similarly, over 1.5 lakh women have been provided with free gas cylinders under the Ujwala Yojana.
  • Today is a big day for lakhs of people of Manipur. The Rs 3 lakh crore Manipur water supply project will help solve the water issues of the people of Manipur.
  • The project has been designed keeping in mind the needs of the next 20-22 years. This project will ensure clean drinking water to lakhs of homes and will also employ thousands of people.
  • Last year, when Jal Jiwan Mission was being inaugurated, I had asserted that we have to work with at a rapid pace than the previous governments. When the task is to provide water to over 15 crore houses, then we can't even think of relaxing for a minute.
  • Almost one lakh water connections are being provided across the country, every day. In other words, we are solving the problems related to water of one lakh mothers and sisters; we are making their lives easier.
  • Ease of Living is a crucial aspect of living a better life. Money can be less or more, however, everybody has an equal right over Ease of Living. Hence, in the last six years, we have initiated a massive Ease of Living movement.
  • Northeast India is a great symbol of India's natural, cultural diversity & cultural strength. In such a situation, tourism gets a lot of strength when modern infrastructure is built. Tourism potential of North East including Manipur is still unexplored.
