NEW DELHI: The decision not to allow persons who have obtained medical degrees from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Ladakh (POJKL) was long overdue and is in keeping with a unanimous resolution of Parliament adopted in 1994, junior minister in PMO Jitendra Singh has said.
In a move with larger political ramifications, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has issued a public notice stating that any qualification obtained from medical colleges in Pakistan-occupied territories of J&K and (occupied parts) of Ladakh shall not entitle a person for grant of registration to practise medicine in India. "This should have been done many years ago. It is in keeping with the unanimous resolution passed by the Indian Parliament in 1994," Singh told TOI. The resolution iterated that all of J&K is integral territory of India.
