Prime Minister Narendra Modis exhortation to support indigenously developed apps is not only an attempt to boost the “self-reliant India” campaign but also making them popular to the extent that they replace popular apps, which are controlled by foreign companies and are not considered safe.
In 'Mann Ki Baat', Modi appreciated Made In India apps like Koo, StepSetGo, Zoho, Chingari, Kutuki, FTC talent, etc. The “Aatmanirbhar App Innovation Challenge” selected the best apps from around 7,000 entries across India.
These were from different categories like gaming, entertainment, business, utilities, social media and fitness. These apps have been built by India youth from different parts of the country and it is our duty to support them.
“At the beginning of this month, the country's youth were given an app innovation challenge. Our youth wholeheartedly participated in the Atmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge. Around 7,000 entries were received which included almost two-third apps made by youth from tier 2 and 3 cities,” Modi said, praising innovations made by the Indian youth, which are gaining popularity and are seen as a major boost to the self-reliant India campaign.
The PM said after scrutiny, about two dozen apps were awarded in different categories and urged people to learn and connect with these apps.
“One of these apps is the Kutuki Kids Learning App. This is an interactive app for small children in which kids can learn a lot about math and science through stories and songs. It also contains activities and games,” Modi said.
Referring to more such apps, the PM mentioned about microblogging platform called Koo, through which one can communicate and interact through text, audio and videos in mother tongue. “Similarly, Chingari app is gaining popularity amongst the youth," he added.
One app is “Ask Sarkar”, the PM said. “Through this app you can interact via a checkboard and get accurate information about any government scheme. This app can help you in text, audio and video form also, the Prime Minister stated.
In July this year, India had banned 47 apps, which were variants and cloned copies of the 59 apps banned earlier in June. The 59 apps had been banned by the Centre in June in view of the information available that they were engaged in activities which were "prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity and defence" of the country.
