22 PSA detainees & 41 undertrials released in view of Covid, J&K HC told

SRINAGAR: As many as 22 people detained under the Public Safety Act and 41 undertrials have been released from different prisons of the Union Territory following the high-powered committee direction to decongest jails in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the J&K high court was told.
In a statement submitted before the HC on April 7, J&K director general of prisons V K Singh said while the 22 were detained under PSA following the nullification of Article 370 on August 5 last year, the 41 inmates were facing trial under various sections of CrPC.
Singh further told the court that sanction for parole has been granted to 19 prisoners and two of them have so far been released. He also placed before the court details about people from J&amRead More – Source
