More than 50 days, but 34% prefer to stay home

NEW DELHI: More than 50 days of lockdown over, and were looking forward to (some) freedom at last. A poll conducted by TOI that got over 11,000
responses shows that corona anxiety is going nowhere. As many as 34% want to continue staying in even once the lockdown is fully lifted.

For those who intend to go out, the first stop is the barber — 20% are dying for their unruly mane to be tamed, with only 7% wanting to head to their favourite restaurant.

In terms of feelings towards the lockdown itself, there was a pretty even split — 49% wanted the lockdown to continue because its needed to save lives, and 51% wanted it to end to save the economy.
However, for 36% the thought of contracting the disease seems to have been the number one source of stress with the prospect of job loss stressing out 27%. Getting a pay cut and procuring groceries, both at 15%, were also stressors.

Jeevant Rampal, assistant professor of economics at IIM-Ahemdabad, says behavioural economics offers up several possible reasons for corona being our top priority. “People are facing this uncertainty and they are risk averse. Of course, the perspective that the lockdown should continue is one steeped in some degree of privilege but what is clear is that most people are not
ready to jump straight back into their lives. Youd think parents are dying for a break from their bored kids, but 66% dont wish to send their kids off to school, even after it officially reopens.

Going to crowded places like malls or movie theatres isnt an immediate need either — 38% wouldnt go to such public spots for the next three montRead More – Source
