New ‘Camp Fire’ Folklore Festival kicks off in Madinah

MADINAH: A new “Camp Fire” festival started on Wednesday, Dec. 6 in Suwaydrah, about 50 kilometers east of Madinah.
The event, which runs for 10 days from 4 p.m.-11 p.m., offers 40 different activities which suit all members of the family.
The festival has enjoyed considerable popularity among citizens and residents alike from different parts of the Kingdom and the Gulf countries.
Arab News observed the different activities of the festival and met an expert in falconry. Al-Muteiri told Arab News that he loves falconry and that the falcon he has is worth about SR100,000 ($26,665). He added that he has been practicing this hobby for 10 years and that it is very popular among visitors who come to take pictures with the falcon and ask questions about falconry in general.
One of the remarkable activities of the festival is the old cars area. The supervisor of this activity, Abdulrahman Al-Saedi, told Arab News that the main cars which are on display in this corner include a 1960 Dodge, and a 1966 Ford, as well as many other cars. This corner is also very popular among visitors, some of whom have expressed their interest in buying old cars.
Horse riding is another popular activity at the festival. Mohammed Abkar told Arab News that he is good at “equestrian skills and I have participated in Riyadh, Dammam and Qassim, and today I’m taking part in this Camp Fire festival.”
One of the visitors to the festival, Khaled Al-Harbi, told Arab News that the activities of the new version of the festival are better than the previous ones because they include more varieties and teach young people about the way their ancestors lived.
