JEDDAH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia concluded its participation in the seventh meeting of International Organizations and the Group of Experts on Indicators of Sustainable Development Goals, hosted by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) from 9-13 April.
The meeting aimed at reviewing the classifications of sustainable development objectives, discussing the implementation of the guidelines on data flows, developing a document on best practices in global data, and reviewing a number of proposals for additional indicators of sustainable development.
President of the General Authority for Statistics, Fahd bin Sulaiman Al-Tokhaify, the head of the participating delegation in the meetings, affirmed that the Kingdom has been one of the countries that made significant progress in achieving the goals of sustainable development.
Sustainable development is classified as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations. It is defined as the practice of maintaining processes of productivity indefinitely by replacing resources used with resources of equal or greater value without degrading or endangering natural biotic systems.
According to experts, it has its roots in ideas about sustainable forest management which were developed in Europe during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
