Saudi Royal Air Force intercepts Houthi ballistic missile fired at Kingdom

The Saudi Royal Air force intercepted a ballistic missile fired by the Houthi militia at Saudi Arabias western city, Yanbu, during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Colonel Turki Al-Maliki said Saudi forces spotted the launching of the ballistic missile by the Houthis from Yemeni territory towards Saudi Arabia at 4:00 am.

Al-Maliki said the Yanbu-bound missile was deliberately launched to target civilian and populated areas.

But the Saudi Royal Air force intercepted the missile, destroying it without causing any injuries, he added.

Al-Maliki said the firing of a ballistic missile for the second time, while the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, was in Sanaa, proved the indifference of the Houthis to the UNs efforts.

He said the continued aggression shown by the Iran-backed Houthis proved the Iranian regimes ongoing involvement in supporting the armed militias fight, in clear and explicit defiance of UN resolutions 2216 and 2231 in order to threaten the security of Saudi Arabia, the region, and international.

Ballistic warfare towards densely populated areas breaches international humanitarian law.
