Head of Saudi entertainment authority relieved of position

JEDDAH: The head of entertainment in Saudi Arabia, Ahmad Al-Khatib, was removed from his post on Monday, according to state-news channel Al-Ekhbariya, citing a royal decree.

Al-Khatib was appointed as chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority in 2016, and had previously been minister of health. He also served as an adviser to the royal court.

The report did not elaborate on why Khatib was dismissed or who would be replacing him. It did not mention the status of his other positions.

The General Entertainment Authority was established to organize, develop, and lead the entertainment sector to provide exciting entertainment options, and tailor experiences to the needs of people from all walks of life across Saudi Arabia.

Al-Khatib was also appointed as chairman of the board of directors of the Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) in October 2017.
